LUCY came to us from the Waltham Abbey branch of the RGT (Retired Greyhound Trust) on 17th February 2018 aged 10 years old. I had been trying to track down the lady, Sue Tipton, from whom we had Manor to tell her the sad news that we had lost the dear lad and to say that we would like to help another elderly greyhound, but I got through to a different lady who in turn passed my details to a liaising officer who asked if we could help Lucy whose owner had sadly had to be hospitalised due to dementia. Lucy had been returned to the kennels, previously to that I understand that after her racing days she had lived in a flat in London and was covered in mange, she also has lots of old scars so she probably didn’t have a very happy life before going to the RGT. I thought that she might be quite sad at losing her home and her kind owner too but she seems to take everything in her stride and she is an absolute dream of a girl who ‘slotted in’ immediately, she is a very happy and easy going hound who is a joy to have around. Her teeth were in quite a state when she went back to the RGT and although she had a dental before coming to us, she has since needed another, costing several hundred pounds because she had to have lots more teeth removed, again I was worried about her but she is one of those ‘get on with it’ kind of dogs. Her racing name was Nothing To Offer but she most certainly has a great deal to offer, she is a beautiful, affectionate girl with a gentle nature and we all love her dearly. Thank you to Joy at Barley Kennels for kindly arranging transport to get her here and thank you to David for bringing her, it’s quite a journey from Essex but Lucy was very relaxed and came in and made herself very much at home.
