This dear little collie was rescued by my friend Marie Keogh. Spending nearly all her life on a chain left her one of the most traumatised dogs to come my way in almost 30 years of rescue. As far as we know she had rarely been let off her chain, with no bedding and just a stone kennel on a building to lie in and with all her own faeces left all around her, life was miserable for Nell. But the worst part was that she was such a terrified little soul who lived in fear, it was an existence rather than a life. It has taken time, patience and understanding to begin to win Nell round, but, by letting her do things in her own time and also her being able to have so much freedom and peace here and having the other dogs to let her know that it’s ok has helped greatly. She gets braver by the day and after around six weeks she decided that she would like to stay in the house at night which has been a big leap forward. She is now a different dog, because it is so tranquil here she can cope with the trauma of her past, she spends hours in with the goats just keeping an eye on them, also with the ponies, her and Cecil play a little game of chase, Nell ’rounds him up’ then when he gets tired of her chases her off, it’s a harmless game and Nell is very wiley. She also sits amongst the cattle on the neighbouring farm, she’s just doing what collies are bred to do and enjoying every minute of it. Thanks to Marie this lovely little dog now has a life and a future and the chance of happiness.
